My Hero Project

The person I chose for my hero biography project was Martin Luther King Junior.
Free to use from commons

He stands for human rights and equality.

Some people were afraid and didn't like it so they started fighting. Police men and some firemen used their hoses to spray the people to try to catch some people and arrest them and put them in jail.

Martin Luther King Junior made a big difference to help people see people for more than their skin color. Back then there were separate water fountains, bathrooms, doors, buses, stores, schools, libraries, and restaurants.

Martin Luther King Junior had a dream that blacks and whites will be friends with each other. He shared that dream in lots of speeches.

I think he's a hero because he made lots of changes even though it was scary. Today would be really different without him. I wouldn't go to school with a lot of the kids I go to school with because of different skin colors. My mom and dad probably wouldn't have gotten married since they have different skin colors too. So it would be different in the world without Martin Luther King Junior.

Do you think he's a hero?
What makes him a hero?

Happy Birthday to Me

My birthday is next month, but this year I don't want any gifts. I am going to raise $1000 for the Dircio Rivera family and maybe some others too in Mexico. I am raising money for them because they don't have that much money to make a home, so the money I raise will help them to have a house.

I will need your help. You can help by donating or letting others know about it.

Digital Citizenship

Be safe on the Internet by not giving away personal information.

Are you safe with your personal information?

Is there any other personal information you should keep safe?

Be respectful on the Internet because if you are not it might hurt someone's feelings and they might think you are a cyber bully.

Have you ever hurt anyone's feelings?

Do you think about empathy?

About my state

I live in Arizona, in the USA. I'm going to tell you about my state seal.

If you look in the picture you can see miner, fields, the orchards, on the right side there is cattle, and behind the mountains there's a sun rising. These are all the five Cs in our state seal.

If you are wondering what the miner means, it means he mines for metal. The metal is copper. The fields give us cotton, and cotton makes clothes. The orchards grow fruit. The fruit makes us grow and be healthy. On the right side there is cows, and the cows is the cattle, which gives us milk and meat. The sun rising behind the hills gives us sunlight.

Different state seals looks very different than others. For example, the California one looks different than the Arizona one because it has different features. Arizona has five Cs.

What's your state seal?

What do you like about the Arizona State Seal?

Why do you think the state seals have different features?

Helping the Homeless

I am sad for other people that are homeless. It's because they have to live out in the rain and they have to stay really wet and they have almost nothing. But, there's mostly people in there that doesn't have homes in New York City. It's really sad for them. Click on play below (or click here) to hear me share.

Helping the Homeless Here are some ways we help homeless people and people who don't have a lot of things:

1. Have a canned food drive.

2. Send gifts to kids through Operation Christmas Child so they get things for Christmas.

3. Help 1Mission by building a house or raising money.

Have you ever been to 1Mission?

How do you help the homeless?

Scoop Dig Scoop Dig -- Fun at the Beach

Scoop scoop. Dig dig. That's what I do with the sand when I go to the beach to look for sand crabs. I go to where the waves crash into the sand then I scoop up wet sand into my hand and wait to see if it tickles. If it does, there's probably sand crabs.

I was at the beach again today with my friends and tried something different. I went closer to the ocean and dug a hole in the sand, then when the ocean waves moved in, I'd dig my hands under the sand and pulled out the sand. I'd slowly move the sand away to see if there's any sand crabs -- and there were lots!

Scoop, dig, scoop, dig -- that's the fun I had today at the beach looking for sand crabs with my friends.

Have you ever caught or seen sand crabs before?

Did they scare you or tickle you?

Tide Pools

I love going to the beach. I love the tide pools because you can find sand dollars in there. I found two whole sand dollars and pieces of others. The ones I kept were already dead, and found an alive one. The alive one is green. When they are dead, they are white or grey. Star fish and snails eat the sand dollars.
Have you ever found sand dollars at the beach?

What do you like to do at the beach?

From Seed to Flower

I plant lots of seeds at my Grandma and Grandpa's house. They are farmers and grow lots of plants. I love planting too.

I made this to show you about growing flowers.

I really like this video about a seed too. My mom says I can't put it on my blog because it has a copyright. So you should click on it to watch it.
Did you ever plant a seed?
Did you get to see it grow?
Do you plant with your Grandma or family?

Ants Lift and March

I am learning about ants at school. I learned that they walk and walk, dig and dig, and lift and lift. They work together as a team. They also can bite people, so look out for ants!

My mom found this fun and interactive site about ants.

Here's a video from National Geographic about ants. I liked this one.

Where do they live?
What do you know about ants?

The Tooth Fairy Visited Me!

I lost my very first tooth and the Tooth Fairy visited me for the first time!
I created this on my mom's iPhone using PicFrame, with a little help.
I wrote the Tooth Fairy a note to see if I could keep my first tooth and still get my money. When I woke up in the morning, I found one dollar and she left my tooth! I also got a little small note from the Tooth Fairy.

I'm going to make a scrapbook page to keep forever.

Do you have any ideas about how to make my scrapbook page look cute?
Has the Tooth Fairy ever visited you? If so, did you see what she looks like?

Obon Festival 2012

I went the Obon Festival with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle, and Auntie.

I got to dance with Miss Lisa. She showed me how. You just watch the people in front on you, and you follow them.

I didn't have video of it this year. Here's what it looks like, but I'm not in this video:

I love that I get to go to this festival with my family. This is the second time, and I want to go again next year!

Arizona Festivals

For Student Blogging Challenge #2, I'm going to tell about the festivals in our area. I know of one of them and my friend, Serena, will help write the other two because she has been to them.
(I think) Red Baron & me

1. Japanese Matsuri Festival
We got to see the drums, and there was lots of food. People were dressed up in anime costumes or traditional Japanese clothes.

2. Lost Dutchman Rodeo Days
There are so many people, and horses. There is bronc riding and barrel racing. The food is amazing, and the music is great!

3. Renaissance Festival
AttributionNoncommercialShare Alike Some rights reserved by Khem ☺
The Renaissance Festival shows you what it was like to live in Medieval  times. There are people dressed in costumes and interacting with you. There are people running around interacting with you like you are one of them. They have giant turkey legs too!

If you were visiting us, which festival sounds the most interesting to you?

Christmas Time

For Christmas, I already got one thing I wanted, and that's for Davo to stay with us.

The other thing I really want is a new desk. I wrote Santa a note, but I am worried he won't get it in time. So, I thought I could put it on my blog, but I don't know if Santa will see it:

Does Santa know how to blog? And if so, will he get my list?

Will you help me by taking the poll?

Get your own Poll!

Do you think Santa will get my list?
What's on your list?

Vegemite Power!

Miss W came to my class. She was talking to us, and asking questions and answering our questions about animals in Australia

She showed us some stuff in her bag. She had Davo and she had the card with a Tasmanian Devil on it.

She also brought Vegemite for us to try another day. So, my mom came to our class to help us try out the Vegemite, and that was our snack.

Here's a show I made for you about our trying Vegemite:

We ate our Vegemite on plain crackers with butter and a tiny amount of Vegemite. I loved it. It reminded me of soy sauce, and I love adding soy sauce to my food, especially rice, vegetables, and chicken.

Have you had food from a different country? Did you like it?
Have you ever had Vegemite? If so, did you like it?
How do you like to eat your Vegemite?
